Info
The Explorer model was introduced by Rolex for the first time in the 1950s to commemorate the successful ascent of Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. The reference 16570 made its debut in the Rolex catalog in 1989 and was discontinued in 2010. Over the course of over 20 years of production, this reference underwent only minor changes, mainly involving the bracelet and dial. In 1998, Rolex ceased using tritium on its dials in favor of Luminova. For a brief period, Rolex produced new Luminova dials with only the word “SWISS” at 6 o’clock, which was replaced in the early months of 1999 and until the end of production by the phrase “Swiss Made.” Rolex Explorer 2 watches with reference 16570 and the “SWISS” dial, such as the one for sale, are highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors worldwide, as they were produced for a relatively short period. Overall, thanks to its timeless and understated design and a size of 40 mm, the Explorer 16570 is a versatile watch that can be worn on various occasions, both formal and casual.
