An eight-day power reserve and manual winding: the P.5000 caliber combines these two features that have been part of Panerai watches’ history since the first models created for the Italian Navy’s frogmen. The 44mm case and unique design that pays homage to the past make this model even more desirable among collectors, as well as among dedicated Panerai enthusiasts worldwide. Each PAM 590 carefully recreates the aesthetics of the historic Panerai 6152/1 with an Angelus movement. The simulated radium patina recalls the aging of luminescent elements after decades of exposure to Panerai’s self-luminous radioluminescent paint, “Luminor.” The Arabic numeral at 3 o’clock is replaced by an inscription that reads “8 GIORNI BREVETTATO” (8 DAYS PATENTED), and the case back is engraved with a human torpedo, a method of attack used by the Italian Navy. Beyond its historical dial, the Panerai Luminor Marina 8 Days PAM 590 rests on a base that has emerged as a modern classic in recent years: the 44mm “Bettarini” case. The case, identified by its name, has been used for the initial Panerai Luminor models (Luminor and Luminor Marina) since 1993, when Panerai launched its first civilian watches.
